Accommodation

Dadanawa Ranch

Accommodation is in typical ranch house facing the savannah and offering panoramic views of the Kanuku mountains in the near distance. One of the oldest and largest ranches in the world, it's 1700 sq miles is perfect for horse trekking to neighboring Amerindian villages or visiting the out-stations of the ranch, hikes into the forest, to caves or to see ancient Amerindian rock paintings. It's ideal for birding - a sanctuary for the endangered siskin, - fishing for peacock bass, pirannah, and other exotic fish, and as a base for expeditions into the pristine wilderness of the Kanuku mountains and Upper Essiquibo region.

Karanambu Ranch

Accommodation is in red clay brick and palm-thatched cabanas with comfortable twin-bedded rooms, en-suite bathroom with hammocks on the veranda. This unique combination of working ranch and famous resort is world famous for the Orphan Otter Program that Diane McTurk has established for this threatened species. Rescued orphaned giant and common river otters are reared here until they are self-sufficient and can be safely returned to the wild. An excellent area for birding, for fishing - peacock bass arawana, payara - and photographing of the giant Black Cayman. It is here that the greatest concentration of the endangered Arapaima - the largest freswater fish in the world - can be found.

Manari Ranch

Located outside of Lethem, on the banks of the Manari river, this centrally located working cattle ranch has provided distinguished service to national and foreign visitors for many years. It offers accommodation in comfortable private rooms with showers.

Mappari Wilderness Camp

With it's source in the Kanaku mountain range, the Mappari river, flows crystal clear into the Rupununi, unlike most of the other rivers in Guyana, which are stained a dark colour from the tannin of the trees of the rain forest. Our camp, overlooking a waterfall, is a simple wood-framed shelter with hammocks. Treks along the river carry you from waterfall to waterfall, spotlighting at night reveals cayman, electric eels, and many of the forest inhabitants coming for a drink at the water's edge.

River Hammock Camps

Located at the most interesting points on the river banks, our camps are built to reflect their temporary nature and designed to cause the least damage to the rain forest. Our camps are harmonious with the environment, simple, comfortable and efficient. Sleeping is in hammocks with specially designed nets to ensure that all all other life forms are kept out. Cots are available, but must be requested before the trip begins.
